I am currently furnishing a new two bedroom apartment and must make an important decision:Do I purchase one authentic Kartell Louis Ghost chair, to be used as an accent chair in my bedroom, or two acryllic knock-offs so that I may have one in the guest bedroom as well?I look to build up to a set of four chairs over time, real or fake, but as of now with the expense of furnishing an entire apartment from scratch, I am only willing to spend up to the cost of one Kartell chair, which is currently on sale ($70 off) at Design Within Reach/YLighting.What would you do in this situation? Buy one real chair, or two fakes?

Design addict or counterfeit addict?  Do you like nacho cheese out of a can, washed down with artificially flavored fruit drink?

Of course, the conversation of real vs. not real has plenty of nuances and contextual contingencies etc. but personally... I would buy neither.

Acrylic is brittle.  Buy one real polycarbonate chair on sale.  Live with it a while, see how you like it, maybe you'll decide that one is all you need. And if you do want more, this 15%-off Kartell sale happens every year.

You can often find overstock Kartell products on eBay as well.

I am a fan of Kartell and I would not buy a Starck Louis Ghost chair (too pedestrian and a maintenance nightmare).
Buy a genuine Kartell product on the "secondary market" and be satisfied.
Owning a knock-off leads to shopping at Walmart and being interested in Florida time shars.

Thanks to all of you for your input!
Niceguy, which Kartell chairs would you consider to be less pedestrian and less high maintenance? I would be open to allocating some more funds to purchase a set of four dining chairs, preferably in white, to replace the rather unsuitable ones I have now.
I love the design of the Masters chair but I was disappointed to find the seat too deep and the back too low when sitting in one at abc home. Perhaps Kartell isn't the best way to go for dining chairs!

If you're set on plastic, some vintage Panton chairs would be great.

New Panton chairs would work, too, and they'd be more durable and a lot less expensive than vintage.  Again, though, buy real ones from Vitra, not crappy Chinese replicas.

True, you can find new production for fairly cheap (overstock again)... Vintage Herman Miller can be found for ~250 - 300 each.

I like the look of the Panton chairs, though now I'm wondering if I would get them in white or a different color. Here is a picture of the dining room. I plan on getting a white table.

Multi-color might be cool.
