That's
a Julius Shulman photo, taken when the house was new. It's in his book "Architecture and Its Photography."
Albert Frey (b. October 18, 1903, Zurich - d. November 14, 1998, Palm Springs, California) built two houses for himself in Palm Springs. The first dates from approximately the same time as the Loewy house, and has a drum turret with bizarre hooded round windows. The second house is in the hills, built around a massive rock formation and simply roofed, with even simpler glass walls. He was quite a colorist, which evidenced itself in his clothing. . .
.
I have an old House Beautiful 40s, that features his house in Mexico...its on the cover, has the large jugs of colored water he used in Palm Springs...I have hardback book he did: Never leave well enough alone. He "developed/coined" the M.A.Y.A.concept for industrial design...most advanced yet acceptable.

digups...
that is a wonderful kitchen cabinet and counter set up! I really like it. It seems so simple at first, but it is fascinating the way all the rectangles are composed into a larger rectangle. This is one of those examples of design that reminds me how scalar self-similarity can make even the simplest forms hold together, form a patterned integrity that works on the eye without the eye knowing it. Thanks for the pic.
Franke
^ Enjoying it everyday sir.
Here's a little background info.
It's a modular kitchen system in steel designed by Loewy and produced under license by Franke, a Dutch company.
Lots of these were installed in the Netherlands during the 60s, second hand numbers still pop up pretty often over here.
We Dutch know them as American Kitchens. There's an Amsterdam company which specialises in the restoration and installation, they even build in dishwashers. More pics on their site.
