the power of good design
"Racing is life. Anything before or after is just waiting." Steve McQueen
hey btm, yeah,it probably is a guy thing. these designs do turn heads of many a young lass on the boulevard though. ahhhh... the power of good design. he he..
the good dr always wanted to do a 4 door based on the 928 years ago. i'm glad he did not do it then. but now, i'm a little worried about the panamera... if it fails, ugh for the brand
steve had a very cool home in palm springs... very mid-century modern... neutra-like. it was put up for sale a year or 2 ago. seen it in a magazine somewhere. do you or anyone out there know anything about it?

hey there, Thank you for the ...
hey there, Thank you for the link to the new Porsche Panamera. That is indeed my first glance one, as I didn't make it to last years Chicago auto show. But at a glance...it appears that someone just added a couple of doors to a 911. I'll have to wait and see one in the flesh. Back in 1993 I waited 10 months for a new 500e Mercedes, as it was a joint build venture between Porsche (at the time their only sedan DNA) and MB. Great car in its day, but would be considered underpowered and under engineered by todays standards. I try to always keep my cars (instead of trading them in) to add to my collection... but sadly the 500e got into a fight with a pick up truck...and lost.
others in the small, but growing collection...
1958? BMW Isetta (trashed)
1970 Datsun 2000 roadster (white)
1988 Mercedes 560sl (red..parents old car)
1980 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow (Grandmothers old car) Mustard/olive
2006 Acura 3.5rl (Other half's car)
2001 Mercedes e320 (other half's car)
and of course my faithful Trek bicycle that recieves the most use of all.
ps. So sorry to hijack a design thread to talk about my silly car addiction...And why on earth do I want one of those Design w/i Reach Airstream campers????

this company will say any thing and sell anything Last year there was a story in Forbes that this company has not shown a profit in 5 years,
Great concept but I think they take themselves a little to seriously

Hi James. The Trek is...
Hi James. The Trek is nothing that great. It is a 5 year old mountain grown variety that I think is called the Navigator. I should get a better bike, but this one just feels good in all of the right places. It logs 15 miles most days.
Barry, Sorry again for the off topic posts. You're right...stick to the topic. If you wanted to read about classic cars, then you'd be logging on to car sites...and if I wanted to read and about and see pictures of dirty 20 pound ashtrays, I'd be logging on to housekeeping sites.
All the best, Mark.

I disagree I think you sh...
I disagree I think you should be able to talk about anything that has good design and Porsche and high performance cars have that,
I think we can all agree talking about mid century modern furniture is great (my favorite topic) but it really does get a little boring talking about the same old same old and boring repoductions that we all agree are out of control with t he Chinese and the cheap manafactures
so in my opinion, for what it is worth I enjoy talking about great design in cars, mac computers , ipods and phones, cool modern furniture, great cities, great bldgs, interesting designers and of course magazines, so keep up the good threads folks not question is a bad question.

Why this thread digressed to cars.
Turbo11 the original poster in a subsequent post contrasted his loyalty to a brand (Porsches) where cars are concerned, but not to modern furniture, although he is coming around. That then lead to the wonderful area of design concerning fine automobiles. And as LRF so perfectly put it,
"I think we can all agree talking about mid century modern furniture is great (my favorite topic) but it really does get a little boring talking about the same old same old and boring repoductions that we all agree are out of control with t he Chinese and the cheap manafactures

And that's how we veered off course, if there is a course with such a diverse group. Here, here LRF for such an on point observation.
