Temperature
All samples are fired at 2300 F or about 1260 C which is what potters refer to as cone 6-7.
Right now I am firing a larger cylindrical vase of sample nr 21 (when checked last the kiln had reached 1840 F.) The problem at this level of shrinckage is that you are getting close to something that is not just vitrifying but actually melting...which is a nice process but shapes are difficult to control

Koen - Thanks for the updates.
I travelled through your corner of the world last week; up into the Laurentians and down through the Gatineau and across to Ottawa. Beautiful relaxing countryside, nice people. The relevance to this post was that I stopped in at "1001 POTS" in Val-David, which showcases many Quebec ceramic artists.

Hi Robin....
So....you passed in front of the house without saying hello??.
So to all of you, you are always welcome. Phone if you want, but if you do not please let it not become the reason why you did not stop!...there is always beer and wine in a cool place.

I'll be back!
Thanks Koen. Are you at the Atelier Orange location in Saint-André-Avellin?

Koen has been working on the black basalt material. The result on this vase seems really promising. What do you all think of it?

This is a great looking...
This is a great looking design. The evolved one is my favorite. It has an unusual organic shape. I also like for the reasons dcwilson described so much better than I ever could (although he preferred the other version):
"--the utterly unexpected formal progression from round bottom to hex top--may be more fitting and truthful for the zeitgeist of our time...maybe for all time. Things are never working out the way one expects and the logic of things seems always to be evolving in unforeseeable, but not necessarily illogical ways, once one digs beneath the apparent chaos to find the logical dynamics driving eventualities. In this sense, the second phase fulfills its premise; its just that our senses don't expect this kind of formal logic to play out this way."
Or it could just be that it I prefer some degree of harmonius imperfection in a design. The deviation from the symmetrical and expected is more pronounced in the second version.
Are there any news of the progress?

Glad you brought it back to the fore...

We had to put the project...
We had to put the project aside for a moment because we still need to find a way to make a good quality prototype before we can go any further. Also, my artistic work has been taking me a lot of time lately but this does not mean that we have abandon the idea of carrying out the project one day.

.
Thanks for the update!
I was also wondering about it.
Well, Not more nor less what happens to many (lots?) (or at least most of mine) Real-life projects!
Sometime evolves in 2 days 3000 miles, and needs 2 years to run 2", and then again. But that,s the way it is.
As we could all see the "inside" or the "kitchen" side of this design, it,s also nice to share/to see this "hibernated" part of the project too!
