Yowsers, I know that chair well (the chair that started off the post). Well, I know the style at least as my housemate has the matching bench outside his office! Observe:

I'm also putting the link at the bottom of the page, in case that image doesn't show up.
Anyway, I was pleased to see that chair pop up on this thread as I've had similar thoughts about his bench for years (not the faultless design business -- the other stuff). So whose got the coffee table?
Killian, where did you get that first photo? It looks like it was professionally taken (for an auction house or something)...

Good god.
Well, this stuff is obviously (?) made from 2x construction lumber. The upholstery is very similar -- actually not a perfect match (even the chair has a different "plaid" on the seat and on the back).

Some of Aldo Rossis' buildings look quite good in the pictures, mostly because they don't seem to quote decorative motifs with the vulgarity of the others. It can be done well if you look at a Robert Adam interior, theres all sorts of classical bits and pieces fairly dripping off the walls but the difference is it was done with respect and love whereas this other shite was made with a sneer.
Its all Robert Venturis fault, whenever I see those bloody plywood chairs he did for Knoll I feel like I've had a knife stuck in my back.

Graves did that?!!
I've always held out hope for two PO-MOs--Graves and Venturi. I had no idea Graves ever did something as awful as this thing at Disney. Michael, I hardly knew ye.

I just saw
part of an interview (on Charlie Rose) with George Clooney. Like many another ambitious Hollywood actor/director, he admits to doing some potboilers, to pay for the more personal projects. Perhaps that's what Graves was doing at Disney. . .to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Of course, he (Graves) hasn't been seen much at all lately (besides product designs for Target). . .
Packard started to slide when they came out with a cheaper line of cars, in the late 'thirties. It took twenty years, but death was inevitable once they lost credibility.
