Hi all! Anyone here from France or familiar with the Mobilier International Eames lounges?
We're so excited... we've been looking for an affordable vintage Eames lounge/ottoman for 15 years. We used to have one a long time ago and sold it and have been kicking ourselves ever since. We just found one! It is a Mobiler International edition, with the clear label and the contract-style base. The niece of the original owner sold it to us, and she said he lived in the south of France in the 60s/70s so we assume he brought it back with him.
We are trying to date it, but it's tough because I don't think the typical factors for dating American models apply (like circular or rectangular clips, for example.)
I did read that the French editions were ink-stamped with a date, and saw a photo of a 1974 ink stamp. Our chair does have a stamp, under the cushion on the front edge of both the seat and ottoman shell... but it's not an ink stamp, it's an embossed stamp. Ours reads F.2.88.
Does this signify 1988? It's possible the niece was wrong about when he lived there.
The clips are circular. But the screws holding the clips and snaps on are phillips head screws, which seem to indicate a later production, yes? I have not unzipped the cushions but I can see foam and dacron through the ventilation holes. There may also be down but I can't tell.
Anyone have any idea how to date this beauty?
Thanks!!

Hmm. I just read that Mobilier International (and Vitra) started in 1970 and stopped producing them in 1986, so if that information is correct my 1988 theory must be wrong!

Sorry, I've answered the 1988 question... for whoever else may be looking for this info, the impressed stamp is NOT the date. I've found photos online showing both an impressed stamp like mine AND an ink-stamped date. My ink stamp must have worn off or something 🙁
So back to the original question: how to date it?

I do not know how to date it but Mobilier International started producing Herman Miller furniture in 1959 and stopped in 1991 when the company has been sold. They have produced ca. 51.000 lounge chairs in total.

Oh, and you may want to contact them (it is not the original Mobilier International but a french company specialized in the restoration of Lounge chairs)
