Hello to anyone that may be able to help...I often buy bits of Danish furniture with maker's marks/logos that I do not recognise. Is there some sort of online database or book that I can buy to help identify the maker and then the designer? Often the maker's marks are logos without words and sometimes just initials/letters. For example, I currently have a Danish teak tea trolley with a logo reading 'Silkeborg' and 2 small 'C's back to back...Thanks so much in advance.

Manufacturers' marks and labels
This book has a section with makers' labels
DEN STORE DANSKE MØBELGUIDE - The Danish Furniture Guide. A comprehensive illustrated guide to modern Danish furniture and design. An indispensible reference for anyone with an interest in this field. Although the text is in Danish all the basic information is easily understood. The eight-page visual index is particularly useful as are the 14 pages of manufacturers' marks and labels.

ok book but
far from a complete guide.
It only covers some of the more well known makers and the famous ones allready common place.
It is a good start for the beginner

DEN STORE DANSKE MØBELGUIDE - The Danish Furniture Guide.
As this book does not have a comprehensive list of furniture labels and marks can you recommend a better resource?

This is tedious
but it really works and you will learn alot. Go on lauritz.com. Leave the language in "dansk", which means Danish. If you switch the language to german or english, you will decrease your search results considerably because most of these items are at the Lauritz auction houses in Denmark and their descriptions are in that language.
So, in the middle of the page is a big dark brown box with a list. Click on "Mobler" which means furniture. A smaller box will pop up with four choices. The top two choices are "Moderne Borde og Stole" which is modern tables and chairs; and "Moderne Ovrige Mobler" which means modern "other" furniture. Both of these categories are good for your purposes.
After you click on one of these two choices, you will see your search results which should be around 20 pages long, most of it danish by origin. Even though the text is in danish, the designers' names and the manufacturers' names don't change. If you click on an individual piece, many times the seller has added a picture of the logo.
One other little tip, after you arrive at your search results, up in the top right of the screen you will see a long yellow box with a green checkmark. If you click that green check mark off and then re-search by clicking the box right next to it that says "Sog" which means "search", you will do away with all of the brand new items that have been listed directly by the manufacturer or furniture store. It cuts your results list down by 2 or 3 pages.
I know it's tedious, but there are alot of great, obscure things on this website. Have fun!

there are many you need
one of them is
Frederic Sieck
Dansk møbelkunst
many famous names and makers but also some of the more obscure and unusual.
The books from World press
Design from scandinavia, ranges from 1964 onward and covers all makers.
Mobilia, but expensive in any range for the early years.
I wont bore you with more as there are so many sources.
ohh go on a treasury of scandinavian design.

Marks and logos
I think the original question was about the makers' marks and logos one finds on the furniture itself. Do all the books and the auction house search engine mentioned here illustrate these?

Thanks!
So much for all your help. I already have a few volumes of Design from Scandinavia but would love the whole set. I've only just discovered this website and CANNOT BELIEVE how helpful you have all been. THANK YOU! I will be posting more very soon! :o)

logo recognition: help requested
I acquired 8 boxy teak chairs with arms and moveable backrests. They are constructed without nails and have held up very well since the early 70's. The smallish logo, found on the underside of the legs, not the wide-slat seats, is of 2 triangles within a rectangle. Any printed info has worn away.
Any idea re the country of origin or manufacturer?
