Hi all . . .

trying to identify this safari chair i picked up recently. It was sold to me as a Moretta Chair by Bernard Marstaller but I dont think that is correct. Have since been looking at Kaare Klint ??? Any help appreciated.

Still doing my . . .
Still doing my homework on this chair but I'm struggling to come up with a definate attribution. Have been been looking at a very similar chairs by Arne Norell, Eilersen & Kaare Klint.

Campaign Chairs
I do like a nice Campaign chair - but has this one been put together properly - the front stretcher should be inside the canvas seat? Also I wonder why the elements have that red stain? It can be quite a minefield with these chairs as the design goes back so long - I have a military issue one dated 1918 but they were around before that even. To make things worse they are now being remade by several companies - I think even Land Rover sell them. Try googling 'campaign chair' or 'Roorkhee' chair.

I like it but some aspects...
I like it but some aspects make me feel it could almost be made by someone with some wood working tools. The canvas on the back also vaguely reminds me of a straight jacket. But I still find it quite unique and interesting (: wish i could be of more help though :/

Canvas looks like a replacement. Maybe the red stain on the stretcher is from the colour staining from previous leather?...

A place in time.
I did find a photo of your chair in a 1957 Better Homes and Gardens editorial. Unfortunately BH&G did not provide any attribution information... sorry
I can't be more help but at least now you have some idea of when it was being made

More careful research
More careful research suggests that your chair is a copy/simplification of a chair design typically attributed to Hans Bellman the Swiss Mid-Century designer who did some work with Knoll.

.
Gotta say it wasn't Hans Bellman's design any more than it was Karre Klint's - try 'anonymous English bloke' circa 1890
