Got it at a local consignment shop this afternoon...$9.54. My third different MCM Danish Magazine rack...not sure which I'll keep. Stamped Masterpiece in Wood, Made by Nasco in Yugoslavia on the underside. Good solid shape other than some wear at the feet, which I'll address upon refinishing it.
.
Just a little point regarding you refinishing the rack, I noticed you buy quite a bit of stuff for refinishing and go to great lengths to strip and sand the pieces if you are doing this for yourself then fine but if you wish to resell or keep as an investment you are harming the piece.
For instance the bench pic posted the after picture looks fine but for me the piece is worthless as it looks brand new and could have been made yesterday. Restoration of any furniture is essential to maintain it but sometimes less is more. This is just my opinion and is meant as advice not an attack.
Not too much of a great length for me...it's what I do for a living.
I know all about the "refinishing an item sometimes ruins the value", but the pieces I refinish are the ones in dire need. Most of the pieces I just disassemble if I can, clean them, give a nice rub down with Howard's Feed-n-Wax and tighten them back up, but if they are totally dilapidated I go right ahead and refinish it. The pieces I refinish are mostly for my consumption. I also do pieces for clients of mine.
Like the magazine rack...the bottoms of the legs are worn, but all I plan on doing is rubbing some Watco Medium Walnut into the worn areas to blend them and help protect the wood and keep it from further deterioration. The rest of the piece I just rubbed with the Howard's. More times than not light scratches disappear with a good rubdown.
As far as the bench piece goes...it was in serious need. What worth is it in terrible shape? Plus, it's a daily use piece in our living room. Even with how nice of a piece it is, it was so ugly it would've been relegated to some college kids' apartment or worse the trash. I saved it and will use it for years. The one thing I would've done differently is to do it in the dark walnut like it originally was done in, but dark walnut doesn't really go with our gear so Cherry Watco it ended up being.
