Opinions please on if you think this earlier DAX is worth restoring. Seller is asking $80 and says that there are a couple small holes that have been drilled in the back of the bottom to drain water. I guess someone used it as an outside chair at some point. Does anyone have any tips on repairing holes like that? Does anyone have an opinion on if it can be brought back to life from its current state? Thanks in advance.

I'd sure pick it out of a dumpster but that's about it.
Poor little guy.

It can definitely be brought back to life, but for the amount of work that will be involved, $80 bucks is WAYYY too much!

I think you can enjoy saving the chair, but as an investment piece I don't think it'd be worth your time. If you wanted an early shell for your bedroom to throw clothes on it'll work just fine.

Thank you.
Thanks everyone for your opinions. I am still debating it. I am not wanting to get it as an investment piece and am not afraid of the sanding required to remove the paint. I just don't know about the holes. Im thinking about just trying to save it even if it ends up as an extra work chair in the garage. But I do agree that $80 is way too high. I might make a lowball offer and if he turns it down just walk away. Thanks again for everyones input and Ill post before and afters if I end up getting it.

I believe that the four small holes are there because it was previously upholstered. I got an upholstered side chair for $60 and removed the upholstery, but only the armchair shells have holes drilled into them.

@NicolasGlenn
Correct me if I'm wrong, but an upholstered shell chair wouldn't have the hockey puck shock mounts and the x-base. It is clear by the ring on the seat bottom that it was used outside. The chair can most likely be dated in the 50's, though an upholstered version didn't come until the 60's.
To the OP, for the right price and if you mind taking the time and patience for a project chair, it could be worth it.
