Came across an ad for a mid-century chaise on Friday, droppped everything and wen to go buy it. It is unmarked, but I am relatively certain that it is authentic. Fabric looks to have been replaced, 1980's vintage perhaps?Frame has a crack, and some mile water damage, but this thing is pretty nice for 60+ years old. I'm not sure if I will keep or sell. We have other MCM furniture, and like the look of this, but a chaise is just kind of hard to program to our space. If I go the sale route, what's the wisdom of rehabbing? Think it would be wise to completely refinish and re-upholster? Or just leave as-is? I'm also wondering what experience people have with Widdicomb and fabrics? If I keep, I'd consider doing some thing a bit bold like a Jack Lenor Larsen print, but in my experience, most Widdicome stuff came with pretty subdued fabrics. Thoughts?I'm still buzzing a little, as two T.H. RJG chairs a found about 7 years ago were my biggest sale, helpng put me through grad school. Thankfully, I can afford to keep some stuff these days.

Looks real to me. The upholstery is a re-do (aside from the office-y look of the fabric, the buttons aren't right.) I would go with a solid color linen velvet.
If you do have it reupholstered, it would probalby be best to stick to a neutral color. But I don't know about that crack--that would seriously affect resale value, I think. Even repaired it will detract, won't it? I am not a dealer so I don't really know, just going by stuff I hear.
Nice gift for you. It will look good with the $5 Widdicomb (T.H. Robsjons Gibbings?) coffee table with lazy susan I found recently courtesy of the Salvation Army.

An expert invisible repair is desirable, of course, but an honest seller will still disclose it and adjust the price accordingly.
Back when I was very new to this business, I passed on the lounge chair from that line at a junk auction. I probably would have gotten it for a few dollars. I thought it looked good but I had no idea what it was. It haunts me still!
Cool table, minimoma.
