For years now, my fiance' and I have wanted to install a cork wall in our bedroom, and now that we've purchased our first property, we'd like to make that dream a reality - along with a number of other things!

I've done some research, and it appears that you can purchase tiles, cork wall coverings, etc., but I'd like to know what the best product from a quality/ease of installation standpoint is and where I should purchase it.

We're a little afraid that the tiles might appear to be tiles when what we're looking for is what will appear to be one continuous cork wall. Can cork tiles if installed property appear to one continuous wall? Is it possible to use cork flooring on a wall rather than tiles?

Thanks in advance to everyone for your help.

Best,
J

Like woodgrain
Cork is like woodgrain - you will notice if its not in one continuous panel. A friend has a cork ceiling in the bedroom for noise reduction (not sure if it's his noise he'd like to reduce, or the upstairs neighbors). It's 12" tiles and you can very easily see the grid pattern.
My concern with cork is dust. It's beautiful, but a lot of little nooks and crannies that just beg to be filled with crap.

Cork can also be bought in thin rolls. Not sure the size limitations, but would reduce the number of intersecting lines. Before attempting that, consider what would be the backing. Directly to the wall or substrate (between the wall and cork roll)?
I just googled "roll of cork". There's a bountiful 2 million plus links to choose from.

Check out jelinek cork on the web, they have a huge assortment of cork products. I especially like their cork leather, thought about using it for a desk top.

I love cork!
If you use tiles it'll most certainly read as tiles. Cork comes in a variety of widths on rolls-- just use it as you'd use wall paper, with a few vertical seams per wall.
Though I've considered this myself, I've always choked at the thought of removing it, down the road, should I become disenchanted.
I rather like those gutsy 1970's era cork tiles used in small doses-- small area behind a desk, or an odd kitchen wall.
Are you sure you don't want to embrace the 'seamed' look? I think it can look interesting (see below), though I have no idea how this particular effect was achieved--

At one time
people were using refrigerator-insulation cork -- it was chocolate-mix brown, and a chunky texture. Really neat looking. I haven't seen that for decades.
As for dust, wouldn't a vacuum be the thing ?

Is this the stuff you mean, SDR?
I love it, reminds me of my old man's architectural office-- the trappings of which were seared into my childhood brain as the HEIGHT of good design.
(Which makes me wonder-- are my aesthetic preferences the product of my own judgment, or are they something less savory-- like cheap nostalgia? A sentimental nostalgia hound, masquerading as a modernist!)

Yes
and thank you, whc. It takes me back. . .
I have long believed that we are drawn all our lives to the things that first inspired us. Cars (for instance) which I became aware of in my extreme youth were those made in the five years or so before I was born -- because those were the ones on the street when I was that age. I have always liked those cars -- and It took many years before I figured out why.
I don't think we have to see such memories and influences as unworthy. . .at all.
