Rounding off my collection (I think), is this cute little gadget...made in "Occupied Japan" sometime in the 40's. It's a wind-up, and the little birdy acts as the second hand as it moves back and forth, while the minute and hour are on the ball thingy in the cage.
I believe pretty much the same item was produced in Germany at the same time. I think these were export trinkets the Allies got them to produce to help get their economies back on track following the war.
They would have been nothing more than inexpensive novelty items at the time, but they sure don't make crap like they used to...marble base, nice metal fittings, well put together.
