I have several nelson clocks. First off, yes, I will be retaining any original works. Some I have contain non original movements, some original, both battery and electric. I want to either replace dead battery or electric movements with battery. How do I select movements that fit the nelson hands and how do I account for the varying thicknesses of faces when ordering? Can you give me supplier names and ordering tips? Thanks in advance.

Take it
to a clock repair store. They have access to a bunch of clock battery motors and they can easily fit the Nelson hands onto any motor.

i have about 60 clocks 45 nelson and i have converted them to battery cause i do not like hanging cords all over the place.
I have found clock stores no nothing!!! if you need new hands call the Vitra factory store in Pennsylvania. it is the US factory and they can fix you up with the hands. Movements are quartz movements and can be bought at Michaels or Hobby lobby same as Vitra.

I was lucky enough to find a local Howard Miller dealer/clock repair store and he's fixed a number of my clocks. He did have to replace a wind-up motor to battery on one of my clocks, but he replaced a number of battery motors with newer ones and here's where he's terrific; he was able to match the clock hand diameter hole size with the right sized hub!
I'm happy with his repairs. Some of the hands are not available from Vitra.

What a shame to replace the all brass, high quality, motor works with cheap battery movements.
I wish you would sell your original clocks to a purist, and just buy new vitra or china made stuff.
I love love the original clocks, with original motors. They purr and please the ear! But then again, its a free world.

enjoy...
I love my clocks they work to perfection. They are quiet as the Widener Library at Harvard. I can think, talk, and sleep in my office with out a grinding noise and fear that it is on its last tick, nothing worst than looking at 45 ugly cords hanging all over the place. I buy things to enjoy them and could care less if I am loosing value for updating them. More than likely when i am dead and gone they will end up in Saturday flee market.
selling for two for one.
