Here is the one in The Met...
No visible screws that I can see, but looks identical otherwise.

Thanks for your picture. The auction ended yesterday while my internet connection was down, so I can't say if I would have joined bidding.
The result was 993 Euros.
Thanks for your help too, Robert!

Definitely a copy
The peculiarity of Joe Colombo's Tube Chair is that every 4 cylinders (49cm, 40cm, 30cm and 17cm) are molded in one piece using the molded-plastic technic. This means that each is composed as a single piece and has no seal (or screws).
This is the right example of a DYI Tube Chair

another example a real one.
(yes, it was earlier cleared up that the original post chair is a DIY)

Original columbo?...reupholstered maybe
Here is a thought...
Can it be a original Columbo reupholstered?...the original ones I have seen seem to all have a crisp edge at the end of the roll...your pics show a rounded edge with gathers in the material...suspect a maybe amatureish reupholestery job?
Screws could of been added to hold it together...are the screws all perfectly symetrical or just eyeballled when put in
The rim
on the originally posted (yellow) example is noticeably different from all the original examples illustrated. Rather than showing a rounded raised lip and no other features, it has a flat rim with an inner termination. In fact there appears to be nothing to keep the wood-ball clip from slipping off the cylinder. . .
Well done SDR.
But necessary?
Lately some just show up, never experience the entire
thread, make an uneducated observation when the knowledge
exists just above. And may never return to find out.
Baffles me.
I admittingly made an all to quick response very early on.
Busy at work as i often am. But i now know and added it to
the learning compote.
Quality and Pricing
This is a great example of what you get when you buy what some stores (like Bo Concept, etc.) label "good design". Because good design (and generally speaking, more expensive design) will give you better results in quality and the little things you find out about once you buy the piece. For example, with this piece, unlike the knockoff, the chair can be reconfigured and stay in various positions with the original clamp design. It doesn't just look good, it works and works well for a long time/forever.
Please make a note of it when complaining about how expensive some companies are! You are, generally, paying for better quality with the top tier companies.
