OK, my fellow DA'ers....help me! I need a new coffee table...I have put it off for ages because I can't make up my mind. I've been using a cheap thing from Target for the past 4 years! But now that I'm getting a new house I am going to commit to a coffee table. trouble is the ONLY one I have ever really liked is the Noguchi table. And I can't decide if I think it's iconic or ubiquitous. I don't like running with the herd. But, heck, out here in New Mexico, I'd probably be the black sheep having that instead of something southwest-ish.
Any thoughts? Should I just do it? Should I keep looking? Do you have any other suggestions for a rounded shape glass top table with very simple lines? It's going to sit atop a cowhide so I don't want anything solid.
So many to choose from
There are a number of tables that would fit the criteria that you give, but I'd think there are other considerations that are very important as well. Like budget. And scale. And your other furnishings and interior surfaces and colors. Are you looking for something with a wood base, metal base... should the base be open and airy or heavy and opaque? Would you like softer more organic lines, or a rigid architectural quality? I can throw some options out there, but to make a reasoned suggestion you'd have to give more direction.
I love the Noguchi table, but like the Barcelona chair there are so many knock offs available and they have become so iconic, it makes it hard for me to think about having them in my home.
Here are just a few ideas:
Lots of choices.
Here are a few thousand:

Oh yeah
don't want to forget one of my favorites. Platner. I especially like it in the bronze finish. Sculptural, but not wildly expressive... airy, but not thin or unsubstantial, classic but not played out, nice scale that is easy to work with (it comes in either 36" or 42") and even thought it's metal I don't think it looks cold or hard. Elegant, but not too fussy. I think the Platner (like Saarinen's tulip) works well with other designs and in a wide variety of environments.
