I just got back from Dallas and I picked up a great
LaFonada coffee table designed by charles Eames along with
Alexander Girard,
This table was in the conference room of Harding Lawrence founder of Braniff airways and Headquartered in Dallas.
From what I was told these were made up for Mr. Lawrence conference room and office, it has a 36 inch marble white top and is really nice,
I love the table but i love that it was In Mr Lawrences
office and at Braniff.
This same person that i got this from was the guy who had the good fortune of dismantling the reservation center from Braniff 18 years ago and he said you never saw so much Girard furniture cause that is where 99 percent of it ended up at Braniff.
I wish i would have been able to purchase some back then because. at all the auctions this is the most expensive furniture you can get your hands on that Herman Miller ever made, cause it was such a small amount,

A friend has a 30s painted mexican chest that was part of Branifs collection assembled by Girard.LRF, did you see Girards exhibit at Hemisphere 68, much of his folk art collection, the way it was assembled...only thing I recall vividly as a kid out of the whole thing. The Lawerences had a subtle/stylish house on Turtle Creek by Billy Baldwin...

I wish i knew which house that was on Turtle creek
Harding and Mary Wells Lawrence were the IT people of the 60's and 70's in Dallas, so I am sure none other than the designer to the stars Billy Baldwin would have done their Dallas Home,
They had Girard design furniture along with Eames for the Corporate offices, O'neal Ford the great Texas architect did a home for the Lawrences in Arizona and from what i have read and saw it was the last word in resort homes.

also, Girard has a really nice folk art museum in Santa Fe
I use to spend a lot of time in that City and he loved it also, it is really cool, and colorful the way he was,
but not much of his furniture there.

you boys being from Texas, have you run in to very many of these at estate sales or modern shows , I was told there is a very small amount floating around.
but i was also told that all the Girard furniture that you see at auction today was in the Braniff corporate offices or reservation centers,Not hard to believe that it is so valuable but from what i understand it was pretty shotty when it left the center, of course all original,
Don't you know back then very few people could have cared less, about this stuff at all,

thanks Barry ,
I went to deliver some chairs to a hair salon and it was right next door. I wish I could put it in the deal of the day thread as it was pricey
but I figure there are not to many of these around so i should bite the bullet and truck it back to Oklahoma
plus I have a good wife who says buy it.. Its for your collection .... so I lucked out on both occasions.

funny you should ask
I went to my first estate sale ever this morning. Unfortunately, I got caught up playing this hilarious board game called "Loaded Questions" last night and stayed up too late. So, I was an hour and a half late getting there.
The house it was in was a really cool MCM house (that needed updating, but great bones either way). I think the stuff was picked over before I got there, bc it sucked.

nothing like a great estate sale.
I am sure when i leave this earth hopefully later than sooner there will be one hell of a one around this house, they will be lined up for miles,
I have been told that the corporate estate sales are the best.
I live in a small town with about 5 major corporations, but places like Dallas Houston, and other large cities have some great ones, as after 20 years every thing goes , as 0 depreciation factor, and they let the stuff go for what ever they can get .
If i lived in a big city and was trying to build a great modern collection i would be scoping out large corporations with cool furniture,
