Hi everybody, I got two Niels Møller chairs Model 75, but the papercord seats are quite stained, the function/technic of the papercord is okay, it's nothing broken or damaged, only stained.
So my question is, is anybody experienced in cleaning those seats, and if so, which tools and cleaning materials are needed.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Here you go
I haven't tried this myself but I think one of the regulars on this forum did and improved the look of his chairs.
This particular product isn't widely available in the US (if that's where you are) but I'm pretty sure you can just grate a bar of Ivory soap to get the same thing. Soap flakes in water are used a lot in Denmark to clean pine floors. Paper is the same material as wood so it makes sense that it would work on paper cord seats, too.
I would try it but my paper cord seats aren't dirty (yet).

*spanky*, thanks for your suggestion, but I prefer to listen to somebody who really practised it.

I tried that method and was not happy.
I have 6 Moller 71 chairs that smelled of cigarette smoke and had some dirty spots on the seats, Some of the info I got said not to saturate the paper cord but it is fairly hard not to saturate the paper cord to get the problem areas clean. Since mine obviously had nicotine film on them when the seats dried the sides where i didn't wet left clear horizontal lines. I plan to do over the same seat in the near future,to see if that would take care of the issue, but I'm also strongly considering having them recorded. Does anybody know what a fair price to have this done cost?

If you take the time to search this forum, you will find the discussion where the person who tried this method talked about the results.

I recently acquired a Wegner CH23 dining chair with original corded seats, which had some miscellaneous paint splatters and other stains. When I started cleaning the seat, I just happened to see a clean bamboo skewer lying on my kitchen counter. So I thought, why not try that on the seat. It turned out to be the perfect tool. The pointed end of the skewer was great at scraping off paint and other stains without damaging the cord (as I was concerned might happen with a metal point). The blunt end was good every now and then when dull scraping was required. I was surprised that pretty much all of the stains came out with gentle scraping and poking alone. No liquid or detergent options were required or used. I guess I got lucky that none of the stains were soaked-in wine or similar.

Hi *spanky*, if you know that thread, please give me the link, so I don't have to search all evening. 🙂 Thanks.

Just do some keyword searches. I would do the same thing and I don't really have time even for that right now. Sorry.

"i've found it" AND...
Saiz, most would actually provide a link to the post that was found (or the title). then again, most might apologize to Spanky, too.

dvs: as Spanky said, just do...
dvs: as Spanky said, just do some keyword - papercord for example - and you'll find a lot of threads concerning the topic.
Apologise to Spanky? For what reason? Are you getting out of the wrong side of bed?
Have a nice day and get well soon.

Hi Siaz,
I've used the soap flake method on several papercord seats and it works fine. It is not an immediate clean, but one over time. Soap flakes are vegetable oil, which penetrates the papercord and slowly lifts the stain out.
I have successfully used this on Wegner wishbone chairs after I spilled some coffee on the seat. Also used it on a Wegner J16 Rocker to recondition a seat that had been water and sun faded.
Just like Spanky said, the papercord reacts similarly to wood - too dry and it becomes brittle. So, in addition to cleaning I also give my chairs a soap bath every six months or so just for preventative maintenance.
Just be sure you don't sit in the chairs when the cord is wet!

.
Another thing you could try on stains that havn't been soaked in, grime etc is just rub a pencil eraser all over it vigorously, works well on wood for getting pencil marks out and then just vacuum out the rubbings.
