I was watching old clips of The Dick Cavett Show (the late night ABC incarnation) and I noticed that his set is outfitted with chrome-based (stemmed?) tulip side tables. I'm not a huge fan of the tulip line, however I regularly watch Saarinen auctions on ebay, and I've never come across these. Do you think they were made exclusively for the show? Here's a clip which shows the tables -- skip forward to the 1:50 mark to see them featured prominently.
But i'm pretty sure that
there was a genuine Knoll Saarinen Oval cigarette table used on "The Tonight Show"'s set for all of those years when Carson was host.
And...if any of you guys see DVDs of the classic "My Little Margie' from the 1950's you'll see lots of California high-end modern, mixed with some other modern pieces....even though the show was "set" in New York City.
