Chinese influence on Danish furniture design

I just read this article which states the following 'For the past half-century, the Danish furniture industry has been widely inspired by furniture styles from the Ming Dynasty'

I find this fascinating, as I would never have made the connection

Finn Juhl's
Japan series springs to mind.
I guess I can see a correlation of form and materials, but for me, it'd be up to the designers to cite their influences.

Yes
Wegner was inspired by a photo of Ming chairs (below) and developed a series of chairs of his own. They start rather decoratively with the Fritz Hansen model and end rather abstractly with the Wishbone chair. I personally believe the PP503 (Round Chair) is the true culmination in the series.
