Two of the best vintage malls are very close to each other in the Edgewater neighborhood: Broadway Antique Mall and Edgewater Antique Mall.
A lot of high-end design houses and dealers are located in (and the area around) the Merchandise Mart.

Finally... a way to contribute!
In addition to the places already mentioned, I'd add An Orange Moon, Modern Times, AOSTA & Humboldt House.
There are also a number of salvage shops in (e.g. salvage one, architectural artifacts) that are fun to browse through.
Have fun!

Shopping can be fun, but so much of what is available can be seen on line. Unless I was trying to fill some special need, if I only had a short time in Chicago I would spend it soaking up all the great art and architecture. The Chicago Architecture Foundation offers some fantastic tours ( http://www.architecture.org/tours/) the Chicago Historical Society is great, and there are all kinds of resources on line that would allow you to more than fill your itinerary. The Art Institute, the MCA, the Field Museum, Millennium Park, the Chicago Cultural Center, the Museum of Science and Industry... If you want to focus on Modernism, check the Chicago Bauhaus and Beyond website. If you are going to be traveling outside of downtown, let us know where. There some some 'burbs peppered with amazing modern homes.
