My wife and I extended our very normal 1950s terraced house in Dublin Ireland,my wife did all the designs etc and project managed it.Its nothing special as such but i still think she did a great job with it.The new part of the house consists of a large sitting room,a new kitchen dining room,a bathroom and a small mews building at the back of the house. We have 2 kids under 7 so the brief was to create something that was child friendly, manageable by two working parents and a nice space to entertain in.Weve been living in it for approx 3 months now and it has worked beautifully.the kids play more and watch less TV,we have had more people over to eat and also more guests to stay the night. Its bright airy and comfortable and the kitchen is a pleasure to cook in.....well here she is hope you like it.

The floor is oak (not solid, kind of a half and half but still quite thick) with a lime wash over them,my wife sourced them in the UK somewhere....I wasnt paying to much attention truth be known,I just grunted every now and then.My wife was recently photographed here for an article about her and the only calls she got were about the floor boards....funny what people pick up on.
For the record and Ive mentioned it here before but my wife is (as far as I am concerned) a very talented designer. She designs and the makes (project manages really) highly sculptural large light fittings for commercial and domestic spaces.
heres her website which is here in the DA directory

Thanks to everyone for their very nice comments glad you like what weve done. The thing I really like about the whole thing is that the house is so normal looking at the front.

Fantastic! I love the raw cast concrete fireplace. Did you strip down a finished surface or cast New? And you better be careful about posting these pics here on DA. My fiancee and I might show up and become the relatives you never knew you had who won't leave (hehehhe). But seriously, tell your wife I think it is fantastic all the way around. congratulations!

I join the chorus...a lovely home. Rustic modern?
Pleasant use of materials...warm and inviting, even romantic. The exterior melds well with the interior. The concrete fireplace put me off kilter at first. I've a limited opinion on concrete use in the home , but the way this was treated..it fits and I'm liking it. I've always like the patterns of concrete, especially when wetted. An interesting thing popped into my head... sound.... Does it have a slight echo or airyness to it? Anyway, You wife did an exceptional job!
Lovely
just lovely. Yes, your wife is a talented designer -- to state the obvious. Really nice. Very subtle effects, including color. How about that 9-foot door ? What is the wood used throughout (other than the *ahem* floor) ?
Thanks for the oversize pictures. I for one like swimming around it them -- it's a bit like having real-life peripheral vision, in slow motion. . .?

I am afraid I have no idea how to resize photos but I am eager to learn,I will endeavor to find out how to do it today or if the info exist here and someone can tell me where to access it I will go off and learn and edit the photos to fit (if thats possible).
The Door frames and Doors are cedar, the fireplace is just poured concrete,it was originally on the plan due to be finished in a different manner but my wife decided after it was poured to leave it in its raw state. My mother hates it and has wagered us ?500 we cant live with it for a year.
