I'm new to modern furniture, so please forgive the stupid question. I am thinking about purchasing some Cherner side chairs and bar stools for my new place. I love the design, but it seems like the back would be structurally weak (where the bottom of the chair back tapers). Can anyone set my mind at ease?

I really LOVE these chairs but my brothers have a bad habit of leaning back and rocking on the rear two legs when they sit at the table or the kitchen island.

Thanks!

Molded ply is very strong,...
Molded ply is very strong, although I don't know what your brothers' weigh. You find many, many vintage Cherners and they seem to have held up over the years. The quick solution is to ask them not to do it. Just say no! If they do it again set them on fire. They'll never do it again I assure you.

the molded ply prob won't burn
so you should be safe setting the people on fire.

Yes!...
but think of the mess...Cattle prod is the way forward here, just zap them. I hate it when people do this with chairs although for some reason they dont do it with my chairs, cant they sit on the floor?.

Brno
That's why I got Brno chairs, built for leaners and rockers. Nevertheless the Cherners are laminated to about the thickness of a 2 X 4 at that critical juncture. If your brothers can sit on a hardwood 2 X 4 and break it then you might want to make a different choice otherwise go for em.
