Hello all !!I have what I beleive to be an orginal Eames leather sofa. My parents purchased it direct from the Herman Miller distribution centre in Chippenahm UK 2nd hand for £500 in the early 80's its been in our family ever since and now I have ownership of it.  Could anyone advise if it is original, the wood work is not brown / natural it is painted black, it has always been this way. There are no stickers on it. It has some damage, the leather has perished in some areas and I was wondering if anyone could help advise on what the best course of restoration would be and approximatly how much this would cost, or would there still be a market for its sale in its current conditon.  As far as i'm aware these sofa's dont appear for sale very often and finding info in it is proving difficult. It does have sentimental value to it but is never used and space could be used better where it is. look forward to any help you may haveCheersTom

It looks authentic. Maybe more pix from the back can help confirm. Yes, you need new leather.

Looks right to me, I've seen them with the wood backs painted black. I've also seen them with dark frames rather than the standard polished aluminum. Is your frame black, or eggplant (very dark purple)?

Thanks Guys
I would say that it was egg plant, i'd always thought it was black but it does have a purple tinge to it.
Any ideas on how to get it restored,  or start from scratch ? does this effect the value. What sort of money would it reach if it was sold as a project ?
Cheers Tom

My guess is a good leather repair person could fix those cushions. I would not be so quick to replace them.

agree with glassartist.  Take it to a pro first.  Good leather conditioner can do AMAZING things to even pretty beat up leather, but it does need some structural attention it looks like

I'd contact Graham Mancha. He'll give you an honest opinion.
