These are dated AUG 11, 1966 on the bottom. Inside the frame is handwritten, 'OLIVE'. I found one online that had a North Carolina manufacterer's tag. The only ones I can find online for sale are attributed to Peter Hvidt. I've basically accepted that nobody will ever know where they came from, but I thought maybe some of you might care to try. While I'm not familiar with this particular chair, I've come across a few chairs over the years with similar cast aluminum pieces. I don't have a photographic memory to know if the details are identical, but perhaps someone might come across a chair with these pieces which is marked. Those chairs always struck me as being very American.
Lief, you can see the tag in cdsilva's link. It gives no manufacturer name. I've consulted with family friends in the N.C. furniture business for years, and they've circulated the chair pictures to all the contacts they can think of, but no dice. We reached out to the furniture library in High Point, and maybe they'll call me one day and tell me they recognized it. Seems unlikely, though.
