Hi,
As a modern furniture restorator I got a question concerning following chairs.
The original owner (who bought the chairs in the sixties/seventies in Finland) always thought these were a design of Ilmari Tapiovaara. But research didn't return anything.
They do vaguely resemble Tapiovaara's Domus chair, but they share also some style elements of the SE18 of Egon Eiermann.
Any ideas?
Kind regards,
Jan
Thank you
@bj: I indeed checked the Artek route, without success yet
@jesgord: especially that horizontal bar between the legs is quite unique I think
As these chairs are bought in Finland 40-50 years ago, my best bet would be on a Finnish company. There's of course:
- Artek
- Asko
- Laukaan Puu
Other suggestions?

Tapiovaara, or....
I think there is a case to be made for Tapiovaara ( http://www.designdealers.fi/page28.htm), but I don't know of any designs with stretchers. Maybe early Erik Kirkegaard ( http://orionsobjects.com/product_detail.php?id=184#top)?
More Olof?
I'm a sucker for these Scandinavian bent/curved back chairs, so I had to pick this up. I assumed it was most likely American made due to the the somewhat "chunky" frame, but I found an image in a Taschen book that appears to be the same chair. Is anyone familiar with this chair or have opinions on this attribution? I have not been able to find any images online to examine other angles and closeups.
