Trying to ID this chair. It was bought in the 50s or early 60s in the US by a family member who bought both Scandinavian and American MCM furniture. No labels found, and the upholstery is not original. It reminds me a bit of Fritz Hansen's high back armchair, but a bit coarser. In this one, the two arms come apart and there is no horizontal piece connecting them under the seat.

What does it look like under the seat? I am curious about the seat foundation. Zig-zag springs? rubber straps? ....

I thought so. Dux/Ljungs Industrier were fond of using zig zag springs, which are otherwise fairly uncommon in Scandinavian pieces.
Here is a marked one:

I don't know who the designer was. Folke Ohlsson is a decent guess.

Yep, these are the ones! Thanks a bunch!
Also, taking off the dust cover under the seat revealed the adjustment nut needed to properly put the chair back together -- so double thanks!

I checked a catalog anyway. It is an early Dux piece. Shows up in 1951. And again in 1956, this time with Folke Ohlsson's name on it.

Leif, can you find these ones in your catalogues? This pair is made in Finland and marked EnsoDux, but these are also produced in Sweden by Dux.
Have been unable to identify the designer for years, it's not mentioned in any finnish brochures or ads.

Those chairs look like they would not have sold well in the USA or they are a design from before imports to the USA started going. And Furniture Forum was a USA focused publication. So those chairs aren't in there.
I think you are going to need to find Swedish/Finnish market catalog from prior to the mid 50s to find those chairs.

Thanks Leif. I do find ads in Finnish magazines around 1950-51, but that's all I have. It has the same construction, as the first chair in this thread, it can be disassembled easily for transportation.

I have noticed with some earlier catalogs, like FDB or Søborg from the early 50s or late 40s, the designers were often not mentioned. I've never actually seen a Dux catalog so I have no way of knowing, much less an early one, but it was definitely less common to mention the designers in that period. The cabinetmakers did mention the designers, but they were very different than the factories, and a Dux was very much a factory brand.
