I'm looking at adding a ceiling fan. Please post up your favorites in case I may have missed any. This is one that I'm considering.

two
We have the Modern Fan Co. "ball" fan, which is just a nice, basic, modern fan design in my opinion. It works well, though has gotten a bit out of balance in the 2 years or so that it's been up.
We also have a bunch of Aero fans by Harborbreeze, which we got at Lowe's. I really like them---again, just a basic fan, no gimmicks. They've held up very well over 8 years and they are only $128. Comes with remote.

I'd be tempted by something plain & industrial
such as this (I must have been Amish, in a former life).
For some reason, ceiling fan design is particularly prone to gratuitous "artistic" touches.
(Just checked out the "Cirrus Hugger", Woodywood-- not bad!)

Modern Fan-Ball
I kept telling my hubby that the Ball fan was what I wanted to put up to replace the hideous things that we had. But, somehow, fan replacement, which required renting a VERY tall ladder never got around to getting done. Then came the lighting strike to our house and we found ourselves in need of ceiling fans, quicky, since we need them so much this time of year. So in the end we put up these fans. Cheap, available at Home Depot and Lowes, and honsetly, I really like them. They kick butt and have a nice simple industrial look that blends quietly into the ceiling. They are also quiet when running which I've noticed that our neighbor's Modern Fan Ball, isn't. In the end I'm quite happy with having white as well since they blend rather than contrast with the ceiling and I have decided that fans really don't need to be an art object. And you rally can't go wrong at 58 bucks!

industrial fan
My daughter has two industrial fans and likes them a lot. I looked into getting one but the room has a sloped ceiling and there wasn't a sloped mount thing with the fan. I wasn't sure what to get that would work with it so i opted for the ball fan.
The fans my daughter got are just barely high enough off the floor on their 8' ceilings. The blades have sharper, harder edges than conventional fans. I probably wouldn't put them in our 8' rooms just because we always seem to be whacking the fan blades with stuff.

Decisions, decisions
I've been thinking about replacing our funky ceiling fan (which will go soon), but not certain if we're going with a fan or the original globe lighting. I LOVE the globes except living in California can be hellish and its nice to keep the air circulating.
I do like the Modern Fan Co. "ball" fan, and the one Olive post, its very simple and white this would match the other globes around the house. This is one of the reasons I haven?t replaced it with anything, I cannot decide what to do. Ahhhhhhhhh

Intrigued by your photo...
I googled belt-drive fans. I'm still no closer to understanding them, but I kinda love the way they look-- half Rube Goldberg device/ half Marcel Duchamp Found Object.
