Yes, that's it..
apart from that it is a shallower at the front, so it can't be seen.

...that raises another tangential point...
is it truly "modern" when a design, like
Roberts Robin Day day-bed
(Say it three times fast when you're a little baked)
uses some visual trickery to make the daybed appear lighter, simpler and neater than it actually is structurally? ie Is it in any way dishonest (from the POV of a pure modernist) to use this slight of design to not excatly hide the brace but perhaps render it unnoticeable?
Did that make any sense at all?

Ahhhhhh yes
it's those deep plunging sits that will stretch the webbing to it's max and potentially touch the brace. It's very heartening to see a design where someone has clearly thought a product all the way through from manufactured to year 10 into it's use.
And there is yet a third topic!
Quick get me a Valium

it's a take off of George Nelsons day bed
The source for your Case Study day bed is one George Nelson designed for Herman Miller. It used a tubular steel brace/flange for the back rest connection to the base, the frame was a blond maple with mitered corners, and a spring system similar to a bed mattress inserted into the frames opening. The main pad was suspended by the springs and the back bolsters rested upon the main pad. All pads were of a latex foam material (don't think it is available anymore) close cell foam rubber will work. The upholstery was a tightly woven Herman Miller or Girard fabric. The original legs were angled wood replaced by the metal hair pin legs of your image. I have had mine since birth as it belonged to my parents, it still is very comfortable and great for a quick nap.

I had an opportunity to purchase
original Nelson daybed mfg'ed by Herman Miller. It was listed on ebay with a $1000 buy-it-now option. I emailed the seller a question about delivery, and by the time I returned back to the web page, it had been sold.
I love my new sofa; but I have no problems acknowledging that the Modernica version is just an alright reproduction of the original. I think the Vitra version is more faithful to the original Nelson design (and looks better), in that the front and back hairpin legs consist of one piece of tubular steel.
I ended up buying the modernica version, because it was highly unlikely I would have another opportunity to purchase a vintage Nelson daybed. (I prefer vintage over new). And I am on ebay a LOT.

nelson day bed
Hello, Can anyone tell me some things to look for. I think I found an original nelson daybed, but not sure yet. I need help from someone to help me determine this please. I am going back to measure the bed tomorrow. I was able to find demensions of 26 x 33 x 75. That will be the first thing I check. Does any one know where to measure for the 33 an 26 measurments,, obviously the 75" is for the length and I am assuming the 26 is for the height from the floor and the 33 is from there to the top of the cushion? Anyway if anyone knows what to look for in the spring part of the seat and the back support for the bolster please send me a line
