Porky Pig says....
Th-Th-Th-Th-Th-Th-Th-Th-Th-That's all folks!
I couldn't resist. I do like the b/w Porky Pig cartoons, but I'm more of a Disney gal. I grew up watching Mickey; the b/w's are the best in my opinion.
But I love all animation, just yesterday I got to watch Bolt. It wasn't bad, I'm waiting on the next Pixar movie. One is never too old to enjoy a good toon!
Bugs is ok
but I never liked the Roadrunner as a kid and I still don't.
I like the use of music in Bugs Bunny cartoons. I have a dear friend who was auditioning for an English horn position in a major orchestra and she asked my husband and me to listen to a mock audition to prepare. She played the English horn solo from the William Tell overture and asked for comments. I said, "Ok, you have to imagine Bugs Bunny waking up on a peaceful morning, stretching languidly, with the sun rising and the carrot tops blowing gently in the breeze, no Elmer Fudd in sight..." (because that music is always what they play in the cartoon for such scenes). She laughed.
Anyway. I prefer early Popeyes. Olive Oyl, Wimpie, Swee'Pea, Bluto---great characters, great voices, great plots.
Mighty Mouse and Crusader Rabbit were great, too. When I was five, anyway.
I despised the Jetsons and Flintstones. Gah. Still do.
Ever seen any of
the really wacky early Betty Boop cartoons from the early 1930's. They were very strange, with lots of odd pieces of funny business, such as body parts coming to life with faces and in a couple of place, while Betty Boop is singing, her top falls down and shows her little laced bra!
It's all innocent, but in the depths of the Depression, before the Movie code of 1934/35, there were some very funny, racey and naughty things happening in those cartoons!
