I'm a little tired of big shiny 5-spoked wheels, though; how about smooth plain body-colored discs -- or an updated version of the painted steel wheel with hubcap and trim ring, first seen in the late thirties and last seen on the muscle cars (Malibu SS ?) of the early seventies ?

Because I am an antique dealer, I love good design of any period. I sell furniture from the 1500s thro to great 20th century design (all the best makers/designers).
I know it is sad but I have an old 1970s 280SL Mercedes convertible. It has done 40,000 miles form new. The interior is mint, but the outside is very dirty and covered in bird crap. I usually wash my vehicles once a year whether they need it or not.
I have to say I love this car. It is is acid lime green in colour with a darker green interior. It has two seats, even though I have a wife and two children, but it does have a bench in the back with lap belts.
It is that time of year in the UK when I have to put the hard top on, but the old car gives a lot of pleasure. When you get it going it moves pretty well too. I drove to a meeting a few weeks ago on the motorway. It seemed to have plenty of poke still.
Best news of all I bought it a swap deal for three American walnut haberdashers cabinets, that I acquired in a shop in Bideford, Devon. I thought I did a great deal, until two weeks later I saw them in a shop near Alfies, in London, for five times what I had allowed on them in them in the swap deal for the car.
Still, I love the car so who cares.
