I bought an eames LCW on craigslist and am wondering if I got a legitimate deal. Pictures can be found here.
The reason I am questioning this chair is because I read on the Herman Miller website that the back and seat of the chair is made of 5-ply wood, while the rest is 8-ply. The chair I have appears to be made of 7-ply and 10-ply (see pics) The seat and back are approximately 10/32" thick, and the rest is 21/32" thick. This chair is apparently a model sold in 2003. It comes with the herman miller tag, but I cannot find any serial numbers.
Do any of you have an authentic LCW that you can compare with mine? Thank you for your help!

Hmm
Difficult to say for certain from your photos, but it does look odd. There should be a manufacturing sticker. Angle of the backrest looks off. The residual stain/paint on the shock mounts. More photos would help -- e.g. straight on shot showing the shape of the backrest. Also, how much does the chair weigh? Thicker plywood would cause the chair to be much heavier.
Chair appears correct.
Not counting the thinner face veneers, your back should have seven plies and the seat nine, with a corresponding difference in thickness.
Plywood should always have an odd number of layers, or "plies".
I agree w/ woody, though, that the stain on the shock mount is sloppy and out of character for HM, and the absence of a dated label seems odd.
