As far as the cost,
you are basically getting the equivalent of 8 case pieces. Now, if you went to walmart and bought 8 small bookshelves/chests made in China out of MDF, you would pay around 99 bucks for each one.
So, 800 dollars for 8 pieces of crap.
OR
750 dollars plus the cost of the hardware for something really nice.
How is that even a question?

I agree
but, I'm not sure how difficult it will be to get the hardware I need. If I have them made I might be in for considerable more cost. Still, I'm leaning toward going for it. When it's hanging it will all be worth it.

This seems a tricky undertaking,
but I salute your attitude.
If only you had a couple of samples of the hardware to work from, it'd be a snap.
Seems to me that the shelf hardware, in particular, requires JUST the right angles and tension, to work.
Good luck--

Perhaps you could haggle the price down some,
since the seller's missing vital hardware. It could prove a simple thing to recreate... or it could be difficult and costly.
Paying even less would buffer the pain if it proves difficult, and let's face it-- there probably aren't a lot of potential buyers vying for the privilege.

Do the shelves
have holes right though, or are some of them just part way?
Some PS System shelves have triangular brackets a bit like the Cado ones, but are veneered, not solid, and have a dowel upright that the shelf slots onto.
The brackets fix with a metal plate with 3 pins, 1 of which goes into the upright and 2 into the bracket
It's a bit difficult to explain, i'll try and draw one- but if the shelves need those it's going to be a much more tricky job altogether.

Holes on shelves
The shelves have holes that go all the way through. I don't think this model has the triangular pieces. Thanks!

OK
Luckily you just need a metalworker then
The dimensions shouldn't be too hard to work out.
