Can anyone help identify this tulip table?

Can anyone help me identify this tulip table? 1/2 white laminate, 1/2 wood table top. Joined with central dovetail type joint and glued. Top about 16 inches long, about 20 inches high.

Central shaft is painted enameled wood not metal. base is wood, with 2 small rests underneath. Shaft connects to a wooden disk under the table that the top rests on.

Looks like a Knoll piece although can't find it in any Knoll catalogue that I have seen.

... or who did it. But I can tell you that ain't Knoll.

To Knoll or not To Knoll...
Yeah - its odd. Likely not Knoll. My fantasy is that this is a prototype piece that never went into production but you know how often fantasies turn into reality. The wooden shaft is what throws me as well as the nice quality of the joining of the two table halves for the surface.
