I found a Herman Miller EA105 chair,an original aluminium group chair not the chrome version,so I know it's older, just wondered if anyone knew of how to pinpoint the age?

No
You can not date your chair by just looking at the mark in the frame unless it pre-dates the patent. They will sometimes have a production date stamped on the underside of the seat frame or on the paper label if it is still present. Also, they are all aluminum. Hence the name aluminum group. There is no chrome version. Some just still have the polished sheen while others have oxidized with age. You can buff up and old chair and make it shiny again if you like.
Oh, and remember my suggestion about contributing to the forum before asking for a bunch of information about the things you are selling? Just a thought.

Hmmm, but did they come with colored base/frame? I recently saw some in what appeared to be an original dark grey powder-coating. They were the five feet variety with the seat/back in brown leather no tilt/lift mechanism. They did have the Herman Miller molded stamp and pat. no., but no date stamp, just a totally faded paper tag. Looked to have had about 30+ years worth of wear. I am no expert but the looked the real thing.

I agree with Pegboard, Graeme can you please start to contribute to the forum more rather than asking free advice? Most people will research before asking a hundred questions (the recent Dansk thread would havve given an answer on a Google search). Not having a dig, just becomes a little tiresome after a while.
