Do you think this Knoll table can be saved - the ad says its veneer, but it looks like its solid wood to me, would make it a lot easier. Thanks

High quality pieces with...
High quality pieces with veneer usually have fairly thick veneer, so it could probably take some sanding if you had to so as to remove whatever damage. Watch sanding near the edges. Anytime I've ever had any sand through was near the edges. If it's solid wood then have at it.
Since I don't read whatever that language is I'm assuming it's some sort of adhesive from a two sided tape. Goof off will remove that. Then you should be ready to sand.
Looks like there may a burn mark as well. That might be a bit tricky. Even sanded out there would be discoloration. If solid wood you'd have to remove a lot of material with sanding.

The tape residue is easy to remove with fine steel wool & your favorite goo remover.
But that dark imperfection looks like it's there to stay-- a burn maybe? Seller calls it a "wood stain", and it does look more stain-like than burn-like, in close up.
Just cover the burn/stain with a big ashtray.

Absolutely it can be saved....
Absolutely it can be saved. Of course if it is worth it is dependent upon your price point invested. If it is a veneer, even some exotic veneers are not terribly expensive and the application is not difficult. If it is real wood....well you know the routine. I do believe this table to be a solid wood top.

Repair.
The damage looks to be fairly superficial and as others have stated the tape residue should easily come of with a finish stripper.
The main problem is the burn or stain if it is a stain then you can bleach the wood to remove the darkness if it is a burn you can still bleach but it will probably have left a small dip in the veneer I would leave this as it will probably be hard to spot when finished.
If you are not to bothered with keeping it original then re veneer the top.
Use a finish stripper to clean back the top and remove any residue. Once again FlyingP will you stop telling people to sand everything!!!!!

I agree- Strip and refinish
before doing anything drastic,I bet you'd hardly notice the burn, perhaps a light dab of wood bleach if needed.Looks like somebody taped something to this table?Man,the things some people do to nice furniture!-Sacrelige!

Sandingpatrico.
Put it down!
A dozen things to try before ever going there.
Wire wool, natural bristle nail brush, starting with the
most gentle of solvents and work your way up, etc...
It is veneer. Applying new veneer would be my choice if
some of the wood fibers were damaged during removal
of the taped crap.
