At first thought I would change the cushioning which has gone hard and reuse the fabric which is almost perfect. Since then a second tear in the fabric has formed and I'm quite sure it won't survive in tact. It seems to be almost brittle. Has anyone seen a close replacement fabric that will keep this as original as possible?

w pics this time
The fabric is woven with different length loops of fabric. I would say it's a type of chenille. This is the right side piece and there's a left piece and a center armless double seat. Wondering how often these come up as original?

frieze
You could look for what is often called frieze fabric. I think it's pronounced frizZAY. I haven't seen it with the cut patterns but it is made by a lot of mills and in many, many colors. Look on Ebay. I have some in a tomato red similar to what's on your sofa (but only a yard or so--I think mine was made by Knoll).
Knoll's Classic Boucle is also nice.

I think we have the same...
I think we have the same sofa. The upholstery was solid orange. Unfortunately it had a heavy cigarette odor to it so it could not be saved. It was difficult to find a period fabric for it but I finally found one through the catalogs of the people that did the work. Cost of the sofa and upholstery was around 4k in 2002. If you'll give me your email, I can send you some pics.
