Well,I think I have solved my quandry for a plasma television stand.I was driving to work through an affluent neigborhood on Saturday morning, when I passed a yard sale.A polished aluminum tripod with legs caught my eye,so I pulled over.I conversed with the owner, and he stated it was a Burdick Group desk system, which he further explained was a very exotic modular series carried by Herman Miller in the 80's.I asked if he had the entire set up,to which he asked me to follow him to his basement, and there was a 10 foot beam, the other tripod, and a matte black desk surface, letter storage modules, the whole nine yards. He asked me to follow him to see the 7 foot beam and glass table surfaces set up in his dining area.Fantastic.I worked out a price for the desk system, and borrowed the company van to pick it up.Talk about being ahead of its time! The beam actually has channels for wires and cables, the desk surface easily clamps on,and locks in place-just amazing.I was told an entire set up cost $8,000.from Herman Miller, who no longer carries this, due to it being so exotic, and not many units being sold.I will try to post a picture when I finally set it up,probably later this Spring.I'm pretty pleased with my lucky find!
Great find, Tulipman. There...
Great find, Tulipman. There is currently one of these systems listed on eBay, if any of you at DA are curious. I think I've seen a couple different configurations.
It's a versatile system for sure, or as one of the commentators said when we were watching an NCAA tournament basketaball game yesterday, "so and so's as versatile as baking soda".
Which I immediately thought was a pretty stupid thing to say, even for a sportscaster, given baking soda is almost exclusively used for baking. And I said so. But then a friend said 'volcano', and another said it can power a toy ship in a bath tub ...
