My best guess is that this is a John Keal (Kiel? Keil?) design. Does anyone know for sure?

And how is his name spelled, anyway? I've seen it various ways.

I don't know what wood it is - was told it was mahagony
I'm so bad at identifying woods though. But it's some kind I've never seen before.
Adding a couple of links to some wood identification sites I found - although so far it hasn't helped me much, but I hope to one day be able to identify more than just oak and pine, and sometimes walnut and teak

One mystery solved
It's John "KEAL" - many sites, including Architonic, have his name misspelled (as Keil or Kiel)
Does anyone know the scoop on how or when Brown Saltman used the designer name on pieces? Most I see do not have the designer name. And, are all Brown & Saltman pieces marked with, at least, the B&S stamp/label?
Curious if anyone knows these answers.
