lol, sorry for the blunder....
lol, sorry for the blunder. Looks like I will send my panels to Alfie and he will match a new back panel! Overall the cost will be less than a used chair online and I will give new life to an old battered chair!

good luck
with that. Hate to sound like a pessimist but think you may look back at your decision and wish you had chose a different path. You will still have to purchase a base and do you have an ottoman?

I don't know, jdip.
Since the original panels would all have sequential veneers, it's hard to imagine a replacement panel doing the trick. I think, though, that if anyone can pull it off, it's Hume.
I'd be curious to see the end results.

Alfie has a base for me as well 😉 my total investment will be almost 1000$ less than a used chair online. I am attached to this particular chair now and want to see it shine again!

The refinished rosewood...
The refinished rosewood chairs I have seen online have all been over $2500 without an ottoman.

scored an ottoman!
- UPDATE - I am in LA for work and I scored a great used ottoman last week! I shipped it back yesterday. I had pictures of my panels with me and the ottoman panel matches beautifully. Its an 81 ottoman and my chair is a 78. Even the leather is in similar shape. There were some small scratches and the lower button on the shell was missing but the price was right. Alfie at HUME should have my panels today via UPS. Looking forward to having a revitalized chair in the new year! cheers.

Just stopped by Alfie's shop in LA. He hasn't received my panels yet but they should be there by the end of the day. Genuine guy who is a master craftsmen. He does beautiful work. I can't wait to get panels back and my chair assembled!

image of refinished chair
I thought I would post an image of the finished completed chair. Alfie did an impeccable job matching the finish and replacing the shock mounts. The grain is slightly off but I am very satisfied with the work. I spent days restoring the leather and I am extremely pleased with the outcome! I hope it stays with me forever! Cheers!

Wow.
From that pic, your chair looks better than new. Thanks for following up!
I know he's rubbed some here the wrong way, but my limited experience with Alfie Hume has been quite positive. He certainly knows his stuff.
Edit: My only critique is that the "Domes of Silence" glides on the base look too small. Did Hume supply those? If so, I'd ask to trade for the proper size.
