Includes some interesting commentary from Hansen and, of course, lots of gorgeous furniture.

Which is the chair he mentions that's 100 years old now, and who is its designer ?

Thanks, mullacc. Furniture fans, what's the one visible aspect of the wonderful Faaborg chair which doesn't demonstrate a functionalist, "truth-to-material" agenda ? Hint: Think horizontal vs. vertical . . .

SDR - is it the rattan seat of the original? I would guess it's not the best material for that function.

The canework seats, sides and back were designed "so as not to entirely obstruct the view of the gallery's beautiful mosaic floor." I'm thinking that there is really no need for the curvature of the rear legs?

I knew there would be interesting responses that would teach us something. I didn't know about the client's input. Keep going . . ,

Hi.
I would guess that the flat seat/straight high arm and straight back of this sweet chair wouldn't provide for much more than 20 minutes worth of rest. Plus, you wouldn't dare sit on such canework whilst bare naked, or maybe you would. Maybe I would, too.
Hi,
Aunt Mark

It looks like it wants some cushions, somewhere, doesn't it . . .
Could this have been what Wegner was looking at when he started to think about The Chair ?
Another hint: Wegner's design avoids the flaw I'm thinking of.

Of course, SDR, it's the grain orientation of the veneered seat rails. I find it an unnecessary and annoying design conceit as I do the burled components.
Mark, I know a canoeist that goes by the nom de plume, 'Wickerbutt".

There's something about old Danish people talking in accented English about Danish Modern that makes me want to buy more pieces.
It's a little like listening to Rick Bayless talk about Mexican food.

cdsilva - that could be a promising new product for Carl Hansen. For an extra fee, you get a short video of Knud Erik Hansen sitting on your chairs and sharing some sort of anecdote about the product.
