I picked up the book Braun 50 jahre produktinnovationen on amazon a while back (highly recommended its very comprehensive and a real bargain)

Really opened my eyes to lots of great designs, my favourite was this the RT20 designed by Dieter Rams in 1961

Had a good luck on ebay de and finally found this one, it was in good order and more importantly the seller spoke perfect english

After a month of waiting many emails and trips to the bank it finally arrived from germany this morning

I'm so pleased with it i had to put some pictures up 🙂

My camera isnt great so it looks better in the photos than in reality, the radio has a few grubby marks and there is a few marks on the wood casing, it should clean up well, I'm thinking some burnishing cream for the wood and car body polish for the more grubby areas / light scratches

Unfortunately two of the knobs are missing their text but its no big deal

need to get the back of it to remove the packing the seller used for shipping, i'll give all the connections a look over whilst its off

I'll try and borrow a better camera from work for some before / after pictures

pete

Enlighten me, as I only know that you got it from Germany
Will there be any electrical standards issues within the country you will use it. Are the plug ends compatible with your sockets and more importantly will the voltage be the same?
It's very cool looking!

Congratulations! A true classic and a good example of typical Rams spirit. He's a pioneer in minimalist product design and basically invented the "apple-look" when Steve Jobs was still in kindergarten...
Oh, and BTM is right: Be careful, especially if You're located in the US and don't trust adapters. We run on 230 Volts here in Germany!
Wallpaper put together a (quite small) portfolio when he was a guest editor this summer:

Isn't it amazing that
after all of these years, the world hasn't figured out how to standardize the electric formats?
Not to mention that there's at least 4 different video formats (NTSC, PAL, etc.)

Wonderful radio...
Full of the same uncluttered edginess as a space ship "intercom" in a 1950s flying saucer movie.
I do believe the German's mastered uncluttered edginess.
Perhaps it was these wonderful pieces of design that drove the equally and oppositely marvelous film director Rainer Werner Fassbinder to his excesses in the 60s and 70s. The Marriage of Maria Braun and Berlin Alexanderplatz might be what you would have to make if you lived with too much of this sort of brilliant design daily, but damn its a good looking music box!

Thanks guys
Thanks guys
As Robert said our voltage is the same here in the UK so if i use a plug adaptor (we are 3 pin here in the UK) it should work, as its so old I am a little wary about turning it on, I'm in two minds whether or not to take it to a local specialist to give it the once over
I'm hoping it should sound good its a nice solid cabinet although the speaker magnet is a little weedy by todays standards
thanks for the article Claus 🙂 I enjoyed looking through the images, I saw this image (I think its a wallpaper article) a few months back its my dream system!
