Bra-wearing has been linked to breast cancer in a study done by Sidney Ross Singer and Soma Grismaijer. They found, for example, that women who wore a bra 24 hours a day had a 113-fold increase in breast cancer incidence compared to women who wore bra less than 12 hours daily! They suggest that bras exert enough pressure to the breast and surrounding areas to inhibit the flow of lymph, which then causes toxins and other waste material to remain in the breasts instead of being flushed out.

Now, this effect may be due to the fact that most women just wear the wrong size bra that is too tight somewhere. No one has done any studies investigating how well the bra fits and a possible link to breast cancer. Either way, for your breast health it is better to avoid wearing bras whenever possible, and on those occasions when you do need one, get a real well fitting one that is NOT tight anywhere. You may have to visit a professional bra fitter to really get this done - or get custom-made bras if your breasts are of uneven sizes.

Don't know what this thread
has to do with design, however, I can give some insight. I worked for many years in a large teaching hospital in the OB-GYN unit. One doctor on our staff was a Reproductive Endocrinologist, (layman's terms--the infertility doctor). For those would-be fathers whose sperm count was less than stellar/robust, the first thing this doctor recommended was switching from briefs to boxers. Briefs keep the family jewels close to the body and therefore warmer. Boxers allow lots of breathing room and keep things much cooler. Cooler is more conducive to robust swimmers, if you can follow that logic, without me getting too technical.
Secondly, women with large breasts were far more likely to have breast cancer than women with small breasts. Women with large breasts are also far more likely to wear their bras for longer periods of time, even overnight, than women with small breasts. So, I would be skeptical about making generalizations about the bra being the culprit, I would be much more suspect of the size of the breasts as being the leading indicator of a higher risk of breast cancer than the use/non-use of the bra.

Hats and brain cancer
I knew a guy with brain cancer who liked to wear hats. Baseball hats were his favorite, but he also wore cowboy hats, football helmets and Italian cycling caps. When he was diagnosed with the tumor, of course we all woke up to the dangers of hats...but too late for my friend, unfortunately.

I used to wear leotards all...
I used to wear leotards all day. Should I be concerned about my entire lower half?

turbins, watches...
do people with turbins have a higher rate of ca? Is there a correlation between watches and wrist soft tissue/bone ca? Perhaps we're better off shedding all confining items and going nude.

Well I'm screwed then
So much for the casual, 'around the house' attire.

Climate change may also have light side...
...maybe bras are no longer needed because climate will be warmer?
