I've searched Amazon and seemingly the only book devoted solely to him is "On Design". I'm saving up to get it ($100usd - yikes) but in the meantime are there other books on Wegner's history and design worth reading?

There is a very nice....
publication simply called "Wegner" subtitled...en dansk mobelkunstner... published by Gyldendal in 1965 and written by Johan Moller Nielsen. It's worth to learn Danish to be able to read it. Of course much better books could be written and much better pictures could be found, but this is the best "story" on the unique synergy between one of the most talented furniture designers and one of the very best furniture manufacturers: Johannes Hansens mobelsnedkeri. The book itself is a mid-century icon, including the orange linnen cover and dozens of black/white pictures including two dozen of Louis Schnakenburg, who contributed in making "Mobilia" the very best furniture magazine ever.

If it's any consolation, I spent $100 USD on my Finn Juhl book. While I don't feel this is a true market value, the book has been insightful for me thus far (meaning not fully read).

koen...
You seem an ideal person to write a book about Wegner.
