In solidarity with another poster, this is the thread to admit to your unfortunate purchases. If we all confess, we will all feel better.

I'll start. Top this if you dare!

Bought 2 Paulin mushroom chairs online. They were, of course knockoffs. By the time shipping was factored in, I blew 400.00. Consolation: I gave them to a children's non-profit that needed fun, bright chairs.

I feel better
Glassartist: I know you're talking about my faux Quistgaard desk. However, I didn't donate mine to starving children so you are a much bigger person that I!
I've only been "into" this mid-cent-mod furniture for a month, so I'm sure I'll be able to top this in the near future. Stay tuned for my future screw ups.

At the Salvation Army, I once mistook a poster print
.... for a genuine watercolor by a famous artist. Only paid 8 bucks, so I guess the worth the gamble.

tulips overlooked
many years ago -- before i was versed in mid-cent mod -- i bought a very nice, simple sofa from an large office that was clearing out some "old" furniture, making way for a major remodeling project. it wasn't until a few years later that i realized the nice, white tables i had seen with price tags ranging from $25 to $40 each were actually saarinen tulips [most likely the real deal, judging from the quality of everything else i had seen]. there must have been two dozen or more of them.
more than a few times since i've slapped my forehead as i recall the missed opportunity. if ignorance were a crime, i would have been jailed -- and rightly so.

An "art piece" by a famous painter
I bought a painting that looked very familiar at auction. I got it for $50. Only when I was taking it home did I notice the "made in china" sticker on the back. Arf... 🙁

Small world---I know the person who sold that $312 lucite frog. We go to some of the same auctions but she got that frog somewhere else. If I'd passed on it, there'd be two of us feeling very bummed out right now...
