What do you think of BluDot's new designs? They seemed to have improved drastically. The sofa in particular was unexpected, but I like it. The storage solutions seem nice, and are very classic modern in design. This is opposite of the sofa, which seems very contemporary.
They do continue to design using MDF. Opinions on this material for furntiure? I have a BluDot dresser and the main con is that it is extremely heavy. If I had to do it over again I might opt for something lighter.
In addition, have any of you seen Charlie Lazor's (one BluDot designer/owner) FlatPak prefab house? Very Eames-inspired but nice. Opinions?
MDF
I think MDF is well suited to the sorts of projects they allways seem to be popping together on HGTV but not for expensive furniture that SHOULD be expected to last several lifetimes. The only exception is the Saarinen tulip table top as MDF was the best choice, other than stone, for making a large and thin table top that didn't need any sort or frame or undercarriage to keep the wood from warping.
Yes, but that is an old...
Yes, but that is an old catalog item. What about the new items? The sofa? The credenzas?

Annoying website, don'cha think?
I've got some of BluDot's Chicago shelving and I really like them. I even have a cd of jazz sampling that they put together several years back to promote their product style. I'd say they've come along as a company rather nicely,I like their new stuff. The sofa's cool. Charlie Lazor had left BluDot I beleive and gone back to architecture, specifically the PreFab stuff. His FlatPak home is built by a company very near to where I live. Who knew that prefab modern would come from Massa-freakin'colonial-chusetts!
