I have a large kitchen that has ceramic tile floors and I have discovered that Kohl's (a U.S. discount department store) has the best selection of rubber-backed 'area' rugs. I have bought 4 sets of rugs from them (two smaller rugs for in front of sink and back sliding door), a narrow runner and a wider rug that's about the same length as the runner. They wear really well, wash up great and as long as you let 'em drip dry (keep 'em out of tjhe dryer), they hold up just great.
Some of the rugs are made by Mohawk.
I'm not quite as happy with Target's rugs, mainly because they don't have the selection. Kohl's seems to have the best selection of decently designed everyday rugs that you won't slip and slide on.
It's not that I'm promoting Kohl's (their sheets and towels selection is medicore and not particular high quality, so if you like well designed textiles, you probably would not consider Kohl's). But it came as a pleasant surprise to me that their popularly priced rug selection is superior to their competitors in the mass market business.

I bought a very nice wool rug from Target a few years ago with a simple blue geometric design. After I finished my basement space, I put it down there, and every time I used the space heater, the rug began to smell. When I would hang it outside for air, it smelled even worse because the sun would heat it.
Maybe that's typical for wool rugs, but I didn't appreciate the side effect.
Yup, I forget
I mentioned this some time ago, but it's still appropriate; nicely designed matching rugs with non-skid backs and wear really nicely...and wash up even better.
It's just a tip to share with all you, whether or not you want it!
Thanks Spanky for pointing the repeated posting. I don't see you mentioning anything other than to point that out.
