Hi everyone! I have the opportunity to buy a bird chair and ottoman for $300. I know that's a pretty fair price, but is it one of those "oh I have to buy it now" type of prices? It needs some repairs, but everything else seems to be ok on it. Also, I've never seen or even sat in one of these... are they comfortable? Hard to get in and out of? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Jump on it, baby
Go for it. At that price, you just can't go wrong.

Lucky...
BUY IT! I was hankering for one for the past month, local place had one on sale for $950 down from $1400. Another local shop has just the frame (chair & ottoman) for $950. Vintage pieces on ebay go for $1k-1500. New pads are around $600 I believe. If anything buy it and I will buy it from YOU and you will make a profit no matter what.

As for the comfort
It's spartanly comfortable, the padding is thin but it uses the wire frame for some spring to add flexibility. The position is pretty low, like a tipped back bucket seat, your lower legs end up parallel to the floor and you butt about 4-6" below that. It is a little work to get out of but in my opinion one of the best lounges from the era.

You're right ID
It is very low to the ground and actually not the world's most comfortable lounge chair. That's why I'm so surprised at how many change hands without the ottoman, because this is one that really needs that ottoman.

Well... I bought it!
I ended up buying it!! It's so amazing in person. When I got there to buy it however, they couldn't find the ottoman and assumed that they had left it outside after taking pics of it and the neighbors must have taken it. So I went ahead and purchased the chair for $180!!!!! That's all they wanted. On my way home they called me and told me they found the ottoman, so I went and picked it up today for $80. So the total for the chair and ottoman was $260. Not that bad! One of the side brackets of the chair is broken, but I have someone that can fix it. The people that I bought it from were so nice. The husband is a retired architect and the wife used to work for the architecture institute, or something like that. On top of that, I offered to help look for the ottoman and stepped into their storage building where 4 eames side shells in lemon sherbet were hanging there with original eiffel bases on them!!!!! I told them I'd be interested in them if they ever thought about selling them and then they proceeded to ask if I would be interested in an eames rocker, as they have one and don't ever use it. I couldn't believe this. So if they ever decide to sell them, I'll be the first person that they tell. I can't believe how awesome the people were. I'm including pics of the new chair. The ottoman has the original cover, but the chair is missing its.

I looked over your bird, and was wondering if you or anyone would like advice on Bertoia repair. I am a Bertoia specialist, and repair many of them. I also sell new shock mounts on ebay.
Your picture link doesn't work for my firefox web browser.
