I'm looking to buy a new bed, and eventually some new bed side tables/cabinets. I'm a huge fan of George Nelson and may go for a tray table one side, and a thin edge cabinet the other. The question is, which bed would look good for a modern bedroom? Ideally after something low, and sleek looking (no wood etc) I'm really stuck...

Thanks guys, I also found this site linked below. I think I'll have a crack at making one, sounds fun!!
This bed looks cool too, home made as well I think..
Might order up some legs and see about some wood. Would tie in with how I want the room to look for sure.

the base is two hollow core doors bought from lowes, buy whatever size will fit ur mattress. they are glued down the middle with wood glue and also a 2 by 4 board is screwed down the seam on the underneath side for support.
the headboard is just attached with metal pieces i found at lowes basically just like the real case study bed
then i bought spindle style legs from lowes and put one at each corner and three down the middle for support. u have to cut the ones down the middle shorter to make up for the 2 by 4 they are attached to. i intend to get hairpin legs from here www.hairpinlegs.com eventually.
then it is just sanded a bit and stained a birch color and the coverlet i have is from target it works well with platform beds
Thats great thanks, I'm just...
Thats great thanks, I'm just waiting for a quote on the hair pin legs, how many would I need do you think? For a 5ft king bed. Is it possible to see a picture of how the headboard attaches to the main bed? I'll post up some pics when mine is complete, got a free week soon so I'll hopefully have it done sooner rather than later.
go here and look at detail...
go here and look at detail view, there is a view of the headboard. since i couldnt find metal brackets like theirs that bend and go underneath the bed i used metal strips and added another 2 by 4 across the back of the frame and screwed the strips into that. needed a drill press though to get the holes in the metal luckily my dad has one
