I just bought the desk and Greta Grossman chair for $500. It says Glen on the bottom of the desk. I bought it from an architect who swears it is a Baughman and is going to send me links. I took a chance and bought it, as I thought it was beautiful regardless.

Thanks!

The manufacturer of the desk...
The manufacturer of the desk is Glenn of California, designed by Stanley Young.

similar look
thanks for the response. That was a big help. I just found this link for something similar.
Maybe I didnt get such a bad deal? It is my first piece of vintage furniture, other than a strange table I bought that I will post pics of soon.
Thanks.

link to so-called baughman
The seller sent me the link below of a similar desk with different knobs listed as a Baughman. I am confused as I also found another piece that is a dresser on a slat rack with similar knobs that is listed in two places as a Baughman in one place and a Young in the other. I am just curious of the piece identity. Thanks.

Not certain why you would be...
Not certain why you would be disappointed, as it seems as though you like the design of the desk. Baughman is attributed as the designer of many Glenn of California pieces, possibly by default in some cases, as it is unfortunately not easy to find a great deal of information on the company. I can't recall seeing any copies of trade catalogues or a definitive book yet on their modern production. Maybe someone here knows of one. The desk you show in your first photo shows up in the excellent book by William Hennessey, Modern Furnishings For The Home, crediting Stanley Young with the design.

🙂
I think your desk looks great and certainly worth the price if the condition is good. I've never been a big fan of Baughman myself. This desk does not look to be typical of his designs.

You are right - I am not...
You are right - I am not disappointed. I love the desk. I just thought I was buying something unique and now realize that I still have something very unique.
Can you tell me the name of the book you have? Is it a good resource for older modern furniture?
Thanks Woodman. It is in great shape. I absolutely love it. There are certainly no desks out there for that price that I like more. I am scared to use it as I dont want to damage it!
Thanks again for everyone's help!

It's a beautiful little desk,
but it's not a priceless museum piece--- USE it!
Just take normal precautions-- find a small coaster or round trivet to use for the coffee cups or glasses you'll inevitably set down on it, and don't tip back on the chair. It'll be fine.

I love the chair and desk. Doesn't look Baughman to me - in a good way.

Rockbird: link to so-called baughman
That looks more like a Drexel "Declaration series" desk. I really like your new desk, enjoy.

it's a nice desk, more graceful than any baughman design I've seen (I don't get the love his work gets--opulent materials but conservative/dull design, imo_

thanks guys!
I love it also. It is even more beautiful in person. I think it must be a stanley young as it matches other pieces online with similar wood and handles. I emailed one co. selling a chest of drawers for $3400 that resembles the desk and they said they thought it was also a SY. I am so excited to own something so nice! I dont own anything really unique except for a table and a credenza/ table I got from my grandma (will post pics soon to see if anyone knows the co.).
I am scared to use it because I have two small co-dependent parrots that seem to be determined to turn my house into toothpicks plus I drink coffee...

and the hardware
beautiful touch.
I think you did better.
Sweet find and enjoy.
I have a few one foot square vintage cork floor tiles on my desk.
Good protection for drinks and camera gear.
